"Enlisted Leicestershire Regiment May 1940. Volunteered for the Commandos and was attached to No.1 Commando on 4/10/1941. He served throughout the Tunisian campaign but due to his injury, on return to the UK he was transferred back to the infantry where he served in France and Germany until the end of the war, ending up in the RAOC. He was promoted Corporal on 26/2/1945.
