22 June 1942 captured whilst with 68 Med. Regt RA at Tobruk.
11 September 1943 Milan - escaped via Switzerland.
21 September 1943 arrived Switzerland.

Frederick Spencer Barkham, born 25 October 1912, lived in Swindon most of his early life and was a stone mason before and after the war. Post war member of the Commando Association. He died in September 1999. Fred was attached to No.7 Commando. His original regiment was the Royal Artillery. Whilst serving with the RA he was captured on the 22/6/1942. He remained a POW until 11/9/1943 when he escaped and made it to freedom via Switzerland. Photo courtesy of Fred's grandson Dean Barkham. Posted by Pete R.
