40 Commando RM, 'A' Troop, July 1949.
July 1949. St Georges Barracks, Malta G.C . The location had been previously entered as Imtarfa Barracks. See combments re location.
Photo courtesy of Julie who adds " My dad is the first guy in the 3rd row down (ie first left in first standing row). His name is George Tomlinson and at that time he was CH/X 118769"
As you look at the photo, there are 5 rows numbered from left to right:
Top/1st row (12 men): 1. Mne. Joe Wagstaff; 2-5. nk; 6. Mne Cyril Dootson; 7. Mne 'brummie' Hunt; 8. nk; 9. Mne Ted Farrell; 10. Mne Peter Drake; 11-12. nk.
2nd row down (13 men): 1-6. nk; 7. Mne Syd Bostock; 8. Mne Tony Withey; 9. nk; 10. Mne Stupple; 11-12. nk; 13. Taff.
3rd row (9 men): 1. George Tomlinson; 2. Thomas 'bing' Crosbie; 3. Jim Earl; 4-6. nk; 7. Gerald Bunting; 8-9. nk.
I believe the person top row no 11 to be my father Wilfred William Gordon Greenwood PO/X 6874.
I have a photo of him as part of a athletics team photo which he told me was taken in Malta around this time. I have quite a few photos of his time in ...

I would love a better copy of this picture if possible?

Thanks!
