Enlisted with the 8th Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles . Served in N. Africa with the 1st Army , and joined No 2 Commando in 1944. Saw action in Albania and Lake Commachio where he was wounded. After the end of the war he was attached to No 4 Commando prior to ending up with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers in Aug 1946.
