Jimmy was a Piper in the Gordon Highlanders. He volunteered immediately after the formation of No.11 Commando when they were seeking a Piper. He did most of his training on the Isle of Arran where they were billeted at Lamlash. He was part of HQ Troop and sailed with them to the Middle East. On the 9th June 1941 he took part in the Litani River landings on this occasion armed with a rifle rather than his pipes. Their landing craft hit a rock and they were forced to disembark into 6 feet of water. When 11 Commando was disbanded Jimmy went to 13th Corps Signals whilst awaiting transfer to the RASC. Jimmy served from 1939 -1946. He was then recalled to service for Korea and served from August 1950 - November 1951. My thanks to Jimmy for sharing a few of his memories and pictures.
