Major Harry Harold Blissett served as a Captain in No 4 Independent Company and No 2 Commando. Became second in command to Lt. Col. J.M.T.F. 'Jack' Churchill. Appointed Brigade Major 1st Special Service Brigade in preparation for Normandy. Mentioned in Despatches for gallant and distinguished service in NW Europe.
His son Mike adds that his father was present when Captain the Duke of Wellington (No.2 Cdo) was killed in action at Salerno. Whilst No.2 were stationed in Ayr, the Duke was Harry's best man at his wedding. Major Blissett later left No.2 Commando and was appointed to the staff of No.1 Special Service Brigade HQ and remained with them during the invasion of North West Europe. Harry Harold Blissett passed away on the 18th December 1977.
