Frederick Emuss from Preston took part in operations at Normandy and the advance through France, the Netherlands, and into Germany. On D Day he was a Corporal in 'E' Troop, the parachute trained troop of 45RM Commando, and later promoted Sergeant. An Officer wrote "D Day + 2.
