His son Ernie adds the following &quot;VI Commando were billeted in Dumbarton during WWII. They used to climb Dumbarton Rock or Brucehill cliff on the banks of the River Clyde every morning for training. Some of them, my father included, met women there and when the war ended at least nine of them came back to Dumbarton and settled there instead of going back to England (or in one case, to Wales). The nine that I know about were Sgt Evan William (Taffy) Eyles, Sgt Arthur Arnold, Pte Sidney Gath from Manchester, Pte John Maurice (Jack) Kay from London, Pte Reggie Barrat, Pte Charlie Martin from Southampton or thereabouts, Pte Alex Blasby, Pte Stan Wall from Liverpool, and L/Cpl John Anthony (Tony) Horan from Birmingham.&quot;<br />
