Pte John McKay transferred to Y Patrol, LRDG, when No.11 Commando was disbanded.
A farm worker from Halkirk, Caithness, John joined the Seaforth Highlanders before volunteering for the Commandos.
When Layforce disbanded John joined Y Patrol LRDG (Long Range Desert Group) in Oct '41. [By late summer 1941, the LRDG consisted of two Squadrons, A Sqn consisted of R (NZ), T (NZ) & S (Southern Rhodesian) Patrols, while B Sqn consisted of G (Guards) & Y(Yeomanry) Patrols.]
John McKay was captured on 24/10/43.
As a PoW he was held in 344 Lamsdorf.
