Geoffrey Henry Knight, 41RM Commando
Royal Marine PO/X 108599 Geoffrey Knight joined 41RM Commando on the 2nd November 1942. He took part in the Salerno landings September 1943 where he was badly wounded on "41 Commando Hill" later in the fighting, during a German counter attack. He was posted missing presumed dead in a telegram to his mother. He was found aboard a USN hospital ship and returned to Portsmouth as an unattached Marine Commando on the 28th November 1943. Rejoined 41RM Commando 25th January 1944 but never regained fitness for active service. With his father terminally ill Geoff was given compassionate leave on the 13th November1944. He was transferred to the reserve list 24th November 1945.
