Iorwerth Cyrus Thomas, a Welsh Labourer, enlisted into the Royal Artillery, service number 1654813, on 26 September 1940. He later volunteered for Special Service and was attached to No.3 Commando. Lance Sergeant Thomas, 6 Troop, was reported missing on 13 July 1943 during operations at the Punta del Malati Bridge, Sicily, later renamed 3 Commando Bridge. He was last seen with his Section soon after withdrawal from the bridge crossing the large field towards the orange groves on the left hand side of the road, on his way to take up a position on the hills. Subsequently confirmed prisoner of war at Stalag IV(B) Muhlberg, Germany. Liberated 17 April 1945.

Enlisted 8 May 1941. Volunteered for the Commandos. Attached No.12 Commando. Posted Holding Commando 17 November 1943. Attached No.6 Commando 8 February 1944. Active service included Norway and North West and Western Europe. Post war member of the Commando Association last known residing Liverpool.
