Pte John McKay transferred to Y Patrol, LRDG, when No.11 Commando was disbanded.<br />
A farm worker from Halkirk, Caithness, John joined the Seaforth Highlanders before volunteering for the Commandos.<br />
When Layforce disbanded John joined Y Patrol LRDG (Long Range Desert Group) in Oct '41. [By late summer 1941, the LRDG consisted of two Squadrons, A Sqn consisted of R (NZ), T (NZ) &amp; S (Southern Rhodesian) Patrols, while B Sqn consisted of G (Guards) &amp; Y(Yeomanry) Patrols.]  <br />
John McKay was captured on 24/10/43.<br />
As a PoW he was held in 344 Lamsdorf.]]></description>
