14241633 Gunner Jones, No.3 Commando, was wounded in action 14 July 1943 at Agnone, Sicily, and the bridge at Malati (3 Commando Bridge). Also served in No.10 Inter Allied Commando. Final commando rank Lance Bombardier.<br />
George Edward Jones was a Police Cadet before becoming a Kingston upon Hull Constable in 1938. He volunteered for the Commandos and on 23 July 1942 was posted to the 2nd Police Intake at the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre), Achnacarry. He served in the Commandos until 18 October 1945. In 1948 he moved to Eastbourne and joined the Eastbourne Constabulary where he remained for 20 years retiring as a Sergeant in 1968. Married to Winifred. Member of the local branch of the Commando Association.<br />
<br />
His daughter Sue adds &quot;My father, who was born in Hull, was billeted down in Eastbourne with my grandmother - where he met my mother! Also billeted there were two Belgian commandos, Fred Laurent, an artist, and Paul Dufrane. They remained close friends for the rest of their lives&quot;<br />
