3 Troop, No.6 Commando
On the photo are:
John 'Big Bill' Scott, front row, far right;
Leonard 'Inky'Penn, MM, back row, centre;
Albert John, front row, centre;
Gnr Kenneth Puttick.
Gnr Puttick was WIA by a 105mm shell which landed near him, while he was digging in, shattering his right leg and arm on 6th June 1944 during action to take Bréville. He died of his wounds in the early hours of 7th June 1944 aged 19.
Albert ‘Taffy’ John was with 1 Section of 3 Troop, No.6 Commando and was number 1 on the 2 inch Mortar with Spr. John "Big Bill" Scott as his number 2.
