Private Frederick Arthur John Oliver
Photo courtesy of his niece Carol Oliver who adds "My uncle was in the T A Downham West Kents and despite having a job that could have meant he did not get called up he volunteered and was one of the first at the time of declaration. He was in the Royal West Kents Regiment until at some point his unit was decimated then he volunteered for the Commandos and developed a strong love of Scotland as a result, at the time of his death in 1946 he was with the Duke of Wellingtons Regiment. I know that he was in Tunisia at one stage, also in Italy where he fell down the mountain with his Mule, the only other thing I know of him is that an Italian family hid/looked after him for some time. I do not know if this is because he got separated from his unit or wounded. The daughter of that family subsequently became my Auntie as she married his younger brother, after they fell in love on her visit to England after the war."
