Born in Germany in 1922, he entered the UK as a Jewish refugee in 1938 after his father's detention in Germany. In 1940 he was interned on the Isle of man, before being sent to Canada. He volunteered for the British Army and was sent back to the UK joining the Pioneer Corps, and then the Commandos. He became Sgt Major of 3 troop which was also known as 'X' troop. He had initially refused a Commission unless he could stay with his troop. Eventually it was agreed but in the last few weeks of the war he was killed in Germany.
The above information and more is in Ian Dear's book "10 Commando".
