Citation for the award of the Military Medal:
"On 6th June 1944 on the landing beach at La Breche when his section commander was wounded and unable to continue in advance from the beach, this man showed great coolness when under heavy mortar fire in rallying the section.During the attack on Le Plein on 8th June 1944 he again showed great courage when on recce patrol by exposing himself to enemy fire in order to find their position. During the attack he showed great courage and killed several of the enemy." (L.G.31.8.44)
