French Commandos memorial, Ouistreham
Photo courtesy of Major James Dunning who adds " This symbolic monument by the site of the casino strongpoint in Ouistreham is dedicated to the members of the French troops of No.4 Commando who were the first French troops to fight in Normandy for the liberation of their country. Each French Commando who was killed on D Day is remembered on a single granite stone like those on the left of the picture. The cupola at the base of the monument was one of the revolving machine gun emplacements that covered the beaches".
