Lieutenant Gerald Jackson Bryan, RE, volunteered for the Commandos and was originally posted to No 9 Commando. On their arrival at Arran for training, his expertise in climbing was needed by the Commando unit already there, No.11 Commando, so he joined them being posted to 1 tp.

He was awarded the Military Cross for his gallantry during Operation Exporter, the battle of Litani River [view]. He was seriously wounded and lost a leg during this action.

On the 1st September 1944 he was subsequently forced to resign his commission, in the rank of Captain, as a result of his injuries.

Post war he had a distinguished career in the Colonial Service as a British Government Administrator.

Captain Gerald Jackson Bryan, C.M.G., C.V.O., O.B.E., M.C. died aged 96 on the 21st March 2018.]]>
