<![CDATA[Lt Col Jack Churchill and No.2 Commando]]> https://gallery.commandoveterans.org/cdoGallery/v/units/2/unknown+commandos.bmp.html
" There is a 2 Commando Picture in the Photo Gallery showing Lord Louis Mountbatten present, and Jack Churchill pointing up with his stick. That Photo was Taken on Gibraltar just before we embarked for " Sicily".

2 Commando put on an Exercise for Lord Louis. 2 of the Troops were attacking, 2 of the Troops were the enemy. and 2 of the Troops were on Parade for Lord Louis to Inspect.

5 Troop were lucky this time because we were one of the Troops on Parade. The Exercise was very realistic, the Landing Craft came in, some of the attacking Troops were floating Face down in the water as Casualties, the remainder put in a very fierce attack on the Defenders, who also had casuaties.
After our Inspection, Lord Louis climbed on to a Bollard and said " Break Ranks , Close Round " He then made a speech to us. He had then a very strong Family Likeness to King George V1.

He told us that he had met up with General Montgomery, who had admired his Green Beret, so that he had given it to Monty, and it now had 2 Badges on it. He gave us a general Disposition.of the Battle situation in Sicily at that time.

The Commando Troopships were former Cross Channel Ferries to the Hook of Holland. Prince Charles and Beatrice were 2 of them that I can remember. They had Landing Craft slung along side instead of Life Boats. Some times we had a Destroyer Escort, at others we did not. It was said that these boats could move faster than U Boats ???...

A couple of weeks later when we were on Board and ready to sail for Sicily, General Sir Oliver Leese stood on the Bridge and gave us a Pep Talk and wished us good Luck. I'm not sure what Jack Churchill was pointing to in that Photograph. He might have been telling him where the Barbary Apes were! "

Thanks Eric for sharing your memories. As such I will move this photo from the WW2 album where it was to the No.2 Commando album]]>
