I can identify the lance corporal crouching bottom left in Pete Rogers' photo of the 4th Independent Company as my grandfather, John Mason, from Bebbington, Cheshire. He was near Private Robert George Martin when he died on board HMS Vindictive, and he told me the account of Private Martin's death when I was a young boy. John Mason was in the Liverpool Scottish when he volunteered for Norway. Before the war he had been in the King's Hussars, and after Operation Scissorforce he went on to serve with the Seaforth Highlanders at El Alamein and in Italy.

My father Ronald Nelson Long
Middle row second from right is my Dad . CPL R. N. LONG Royal Engineers. I was given by my Mum a colection of photos dad took in WW2. Many of conflict in the dessert. Some of individual photos of people I can regonise in the photos on your site.He never spoke of this part of the war. We knew he was left behind at dunkirk to blow up strategic positions and when he eventually got back to England via St Malo he volunteered for what he called a shoot to kill course before ending up at the battle of the Latani river. He was in the war for the whole conflict away from home for 6 years. On return to Britain he was given the job of repatrating german POW's back to Germany.

Back Row first on left is my grandfather William Henry Delaney
I have not got this photograph, but I have two photos on here. One has Salonika 2/2/45 written on the back. Would like to obtain a copy of this photo if at all possible?

Not 'pretty sure' now, that IS my dad (George Harris) - and I think that the man on the right (front row) is Tanky Bryne. I had the enormous pleasure of meeting Titch Garnett's daughter in Dieppe, 2014, and to realise that our dads were pals was amazing!

Not Wally but Douglas Todd
I have found that Wally was in the Home Guard. His brother Douglas was a RM Commando, but I don't know where he is in this photo.
