My mother just told me the person over the left shoulder of the man front and centre (minus beret) is Pierre de Haas who was a life long friend of my Grandfather Johannes Jansen (also pictured)

Behind 2 men front and centre is a group of 3 faces. The first on the left (over the shoulder of man minus beret) is Johannes Jansen, my grandfather.

This picture shows the "Domäne Stolzenau" at the east bank of the river Weser, Germany. This was a fairly large farm complex just across the river. Commando troops crossed the river here 6 April 1945 to support 8th battalion Rifle Brigade troops who were pinned down at this small bridgehead.

This picture shows the Elbe crossing at Lauenburg, April 29th, 1945 with Buffaloe amphibious vehicles returning from the north bank. The picture is taken from the south bank of the Elbe, a the village of Hohnstorf. On the opposite Bank one can see the steep banks west of the village of Lauenburg. Above the first Buffaloe, on the other bank the local sports ground was located.

Service
Family contribution, Joined the Duke of Cornwalls Light Infantry in the late 1930s posted to Aldershot and was a PE instructor and cross country runner. Volunteered for the Commandos about 1941 and sent to Achnacarry Scotland for training.
Known to have served in Burma, Norway, India and Madagascar.
Mentioned in Dispatches in a Burma operation probably on Hill 170 in support of No 1 Commando.
